Huffman-Wright is based in Southern Douglas County near Canyonville Oregon. The company was formed out of a small family logging business by Ralph Huffman and Roger Wright in 1956. Today it is one of Oregon’s largest logging companies.
A cat, rigging for a gin pole for log loading, a couple of power saws, and a pickup were about the extent of the entire operation in the early days. We employed between one to two people on a part time basis. The first yarder was purchased in 1961 and with that acquisition, came the opportunity for growth and expansion. As the demand for more capacity and the need for more state of the art logging systems grew, Huffman-Wright grew with it and met the demand.
Road construction operations were added in the early 70’s and by 1980 Huffman-Wright had grown to become one of the largest logging operations in Oregon. Often logging between 150 and 175 million board feet per year, constructing 20 to 25 miles of forest access roads, and employing upwards of 225 people, depending on the season.
A large shop and office complex was added in 1981 to facilitate the expanded business needs. In 1985, Huffman-Wright added another dimension to the company by moving into public works with the road construction department.
Today, Huffman-Wright has the ability to run 11 logging sides, ranging from cat sides, mechanical sides, cable sides, cut-to-length thinning sides, high lead sides, and log span skyline sides. Additionally, the road construction division has the ability to do almost any major excavation or development projects.
To further broaden the base for diversity, in 1992 Huffman-Wright purchased a small veneer plant in Klamath Falls that employed about 35 people on a one shift basis. It has since been closed due to lack of a marketable log supply in the Klamath Falls area.
A saw shop and a rigging supply shop in Canyonville, have also contributed to broadening the base of operations of Huffman-Wright.
Huffman-Wright has a deep commitment to its employees and to the local communities we operate in, we strive to provide a safe, fair, and steady source of employment.
